Coach’s sons describe impact of murder on family
ALLISON, Iowa — The sons of a slain Iowa high school football coach have told his killer they struggle not to hate him.
Ed Thomas’ sons spoke bitterly to 24-year-old Mark Becker on Wednesday before a judge sentences Becker to prison for killing the coach. Becker gunned down Thomas at the Aplington-Parkersburg High School weight room in June 2009.
The coach’s son told Becker they hope he gets psychiatric help.
But they didn’t hide their resentment.
Todd Thomas says Becker has hidden behind his mental illness and must face the consequences of his actions.
Aaron Thomas says Becker doesn’t understand the damage he’s done, adding “nor do I think you care.”
Becker faces an automatic life sentence.
