A newborn baby was thrown into a boiling pan in Bihar over dispute for Re 1, leaving him badly burnt, police said today.

The incident occured at Neknampur village in north Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district on Sunday night but was reported to police only today.

Police said a local woman Gyanati Devi had borrowed Re 1 from her immediate neighbour recently.

On Sunday evening, the neighbour demanded her outstanding money from the woman who expressed her helplessness to return the money forthwith. Gyanati was cooking vegetable on hearth at that time.

“In a fit of anger, the neighbour picked up baby of Gyanati in hand and threw him into the pan in which vegetable was being cooked. The boy has sustained serious injury and has been admitted to a local hospital”, a police official said today.
