Former Brown student sues school over expulsion
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A former Brown University student says in a lawsuit that he was expelled after being falsely accused of rape by the daughter of a major donor and fundraiser for the Ivy League school.
William McCormick says in a lawsuit unsealed in federal court Monday that university administrators gave him a one-way ticket home to Waukesha, Wis., after he was accused of rape in 2006. McCormick says the school never told law enforcement of the allegations and accepted them as true without investigating.
A lawyer for Brown said in court Monday the lawsuit doesn’t show any wrongdoing. The university said in a statement that it handled the allegations appropriately.
The Associated Press generally does not identify people who say they were sexually assaulted and is not naming the father to avoid identifying the woman.
