Ariz man gets 12 life prison terms for 9 robberies
TUCSON, Ariz. — An Arizona man with 16 prior felony convictions has been sentenced to 12 life sentences for robbing nine businesses over a nine-day span in 2007.
A Pima County Superior Court judge on Friday ran each of Vincent A. Powell’s sentences concurrently to each other, but consecutive to the life sentence he is already serving for two other robberies. The 43-year-old Powell, of Tucson, will become eligible for release after serving 50 years.
Prosecutors say Powell’s past convictions stem from convenience store robberies. They say the nine businesses he robbed in December 2007 included restaurants, grocery stores, drug stores and a pizza parlor.
Powell was recently awaiting trial on charges he robbed a sandwich shop and hotel in April 2007, but that case was dismissed after a jury convicted him in the December spree.
