Former Seton Hall coach Gonzalez sues over firing
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. — Former Seton Hall basketball coach Bobby Gonzalez has sued the university over his firing last month.
Attorney Gerald Krovatin (crow-VAYT’-in) filed the lawsuit Friday in federal court in Newark. It alleges Gonzalez is owed two years base salary under the terms of his contract.
The fiery Gonzalez was let go March 17, hours after the Pirates lost in the NIT’s opening round.
University officials didn’t comment on the lawsuit.
The same week Gonzalez was fired, two former players — including one whom the coach had dismissed from the team days earlier — were arrested and charged with armed robbery.
Gonzalez had a 66-59 record in four seasons, including 29-45 in the Big East. Last fall he signed a contract extension through the 2015 season.
