Conn. man accused of shooting nurse ‘incompetent’

DANBURY, Conn. — A psychiatric team says an 85-year-old man is not competent to stand trial on charges that he shot a nurse in a Connecticut hospital.

One of the three mental health workers who evaluated Stanley Lupienski (loo-pee-EN’-ski) told a judge Wednesday that Lupienski might be restored to competency with treatment.

Lupienski is charged with assault and other offenses in the shooting of a nursing supervisor, who tried to wrest away a gun that Lupienski is accused of hiding under his hospital gown. The nursing supervisor was shot three times but survived.

Lupienski has not entered a plea.

Judge Robin Pavia ordered Lupienski back to court June 2. Court records did not indicate he has an attorney.
