Funeral services start for DC shooting victims
WASHINGTON — Funeral services are under way for the first of four victims of the worst shooting in Washington in at least 16 years.
Services for 17-year-old Tavon Nelson were held Tuesday at a Baptist church in Washington. Mayor Adrian Fenty was there and says he will attend as many of the funerals as he can.
Services for two other victims, aged 18 and 19, are planned for Wednesday. No details were available about funeral plans for the fourth victim, who was 16.
Authorities have charged Orlando Carter with first-degree murder in the drive-by shooting a week ago that also wounded five people who had just returned from a funeral. Another man and a juvenile also face charges in the violence.
