USVI sentences ex ticket agents in smuggling case
CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands — A judge in the U.S. Virgin Islands has sentenced two former ticket agents for Delta Air Lines after they pleaded guilty to conspiring to smuggle illegal immigrants into the U.S.
Former assistant supervisor Diana Telemaque and passenger services representative Felicia Browne received five months in prison and five months home confinement.
They were accused of helping several migrants bypass security and escorting them to a U.S.-bound plane.
A statement released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Justice says baggage handler Daniel Confidente received five months probation in the case.
Delta has said the two agents worked for another company that was hired by the airline to handle ticket duties.
