A man in eastern India beat his son to death after his newly-bought mobile set went missing, police said today.

Police said the man, a resident Kamari village in Bihar’s Purnia district, lost his cool when his brand new mobile set which he had purchased barely a couple of days back went missing from his home on Wednesday.

“In a fit of anger the man thrashed his teen-aged son with an iron rod killing him on the spot”, a local police officer Vivekanand Singh said today.

The victim has been identified as Sumit Kumar, 12.

“We are trying to arrest the culprit”, the police officer said.
