Jail costs estimated at $207K for Ft. Hood suspect
SAN ANTONIO — The Army reportedly plans to pay $207,000 to keep the suspect in the Fort Hood shooting rampage at a Texas jail for six months.
The San Antonio Express-News reported Friday on the contract with Bell County, released under the Texas Public Information Act, to house Maj. Nidal Hasan. The county jail, which has a medical unit, is 15 miles from Fort Hood.
The Army isn’t saying when Hasan will be moved from a military hospital in San Antonio. The six-month temporary contract with the jail may be extended.
Hasan faces 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder in the Nov. 5 shooting. He was shot by civilian police, leaving him paralyzed from the chest down.
Defense attorney John Galligan says Hasan should be in a hospital.
Hasan’s Article 32 hearing is scheduled for June 1.
