Jail or no jail? Fateful day arrives for Arenas
WASHINGTON — Will Gilbert Arenas be going to jail or get probation?
The Washington Wizards point guard heads to court Friday to be sentenced on a felony count of violating the District of Columbia’s gun laws.
Arenas pleaded guilty Jan. 15 after it was revealed he brought four guns to the Wizards locker room in an attempt to play a prank on a teammate in December.
Prosecutors are asking for three months in jail. They say Arenas lied repeatedly about what happened and tried to cover it up. They also point out that he has a prior gun conviction.
Arenas’ lawyers are asking for probation. They say he meant no harm, is a good role model in the community and has already been punished severely through public scorn and loss of income.
