Police: 2 bank holdup suspects chased, shot dead
GALLATIN, Tenn. — Police in Tennessee say two bank robbery suspects have been shot and killed after they fired at police officers during a car chase.
Gallatin police Sgt. Bill Storment told the Gallatin News Examiner and The Tennessean that the two suspects were shot to death. He didn’t say if they were killed by police gunfire.
The robbery at First State Bank was reported at 12:28 p.m. Wednesday in the town about 25 miles northeast of Nashville. Storment said the suspects fired at police during a car chase, disabling a cruiser, and again as they ran on foot into a field.
Police said no one else was hurt.
Gallatin police didn’t immediately return calls seeking comment from the AP. The FBI says it’s assisting the investigation but referred questions to police.
