Iraqi kidnappers say Briton not mistreated

BAGHDAD — A Shiite extremist group in Iraq says it didn’t mistreat a former British hostage and has released a video showing him purportedly relaxing while in captivity.

The video depicts Peter Moore inside a simple room with an earthen floor, watching TV and exercising on a treadmill.

The group — known as Asaib Ahl al-Haq — claims the video disproves statements Moore allegedly made after his release that he had been tortured and beaten by his kidnappers.

The 40 seconds-long video was posted Monday on the Internet.

Moore and his four bodyguards were kidnapped in may 2007 outside the Finance Ministry in Baghdad. After almost two years in captivity, he was freed last December.

Three of Moore’s bodyguards had died and the fourth is also believed to be dead.
