Former Rep. Shays aide expected to plead guilty
HARTFORD, Conn. — The campaign manager for former U.S. Rep. Chris Shays is expected to plead guilty to charges of embezzling campaign funds.
Michael Sohn, of Fairfield, Conn., is scheduled to enter his pleas Thursday in U.S. District Court in Hartford. Prosecutors charged Sohn in December with embezzling about $250,000 from Shays’ campaign accounts.
Sohn’s attorney, James Pickerstein, told The Associated Press last week that Sohn will plead guilty to campaign finance and tax violation charges. Pickerstein said Sohn will admit he embezzled campaign money.
Sohn worked for nearly six years as campaign manager for Shays, a moderate Republican who served 10 terms in Congress representing southwestern Connecticut. Shays narrowly lost the seat in 2008.
