Jury views interrogation video in slain coach case
ALLISON, Iowa — A jury has viewed a video showing the police interrogation of an Iowa man accused of fatally shooting his high school football coach.
The 40-second portion of the video was reviewed by jurors Thursday morning. It shows 24-year-old Mark Becker’s interview with Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation agent Chris Callaway in which Becker recounted the events of the day of the shooting. In it, Becker says “it’s just deep-seated … an animosity.” Becker didn’t specify to whom he had animosity.
The jury first saw the video last week.
Becker is accused of slaying Aplington-Parkersburg High School coach Ed Thomas on June 24. He has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder by reason of insanity.
Jurors began their deliberations Wednesday afternoon.
