Nigeria gunmen kidnap foreign worker in oil region
PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria — A Nigerian police spokeswoman says gunmen have kidnapped an Indian citizen living in Nigeria’s restive oil region.
Spokeswoman Rita Abbey says gunmen kidnapped the man on Friday night. She says the man serves as the general manager of a homebuilding and property management company. Abbey says police had followed kidnappers in hopes of rescuing the man. Abbey also says gunmen kidnapped an 8-month-old infant Thursday night in Port Harcourt. The child has yet to be found.
Kidnappings of foreigners in Port Harcourt and the rest of the Niger Delta have become common in recent years as militants and criminals seek ransoms from employers.
