Rip Torn appears in Conn. court on burglary charge

LITCHFIELD, Conn. — Rip Torn is expected to post $100,000 bond Monday after making an initial court appearance on burglary and firearms charges in Connecticut.

The “Men in Black” actor is accused of breaking into a bank in his hometown of Salisbury on Friday with a loaded revolver while intoxicated.

Defense attorney A. Thomas Waterfall says Torn will be able to post his bond and is expected to enter an alcohol treatment center in New York as early as Tuesday.

Waterfall says the 78-year-old actor never brandished the gun and has no history of violence. Torn spent the weekend in jail.

Torn was given probation last year in a Connecticut drunken driving case and was allowed to enter an alcohol education program. He has two previous drunken driving arrests in New York.

Torn did not enter a plea Monday. He returns to court Feb. 17.
