Conn. home invasion suspect has medical emergency

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A Connecticut official says one of two men charged with killing a woman and her two daughters during a 2007 home invasion is facing a medical emergency.

Chief State’s Attorney Kevin Kane says Steven Hayes has “undergone some kind of apparent medical emergency.”

The New Haven Register and The Hartford Courant report that Hayes was found unconscious in his jail cell Sunday, and he was taken to the University of Connecticut Health Center. The Courant reports Hayes overdosed on medication he takes daily.

Both reports cited unnamed sources. Correction Department spokesman Brian Garnett declined to comment on the reports Monday. A Health Center spokeswoman declined to release Hayes’ condition.

Hayes and another man are charged in the killings in Cheshire.
