Ky. man pleads not guilty to killing doctor
HAZARD, Ky. — A man accused of killing a doctor who wouldn’t prescribe him narcotics has pleaded not guilty.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports 46-year-old John Combs pleaded not guilty on Friday to charges of murder, burglary, evidence tampering and terroristic threatening. Police say he shot and killed 57-year-old Dr. Dennis Sandlin on Dec. 8.
Police say Sandlin, a doctor at the Leatherwood-Blackey Medical Clinic in Cornettsville, would not give Combs a prescription unless he took a urine test. Police say Combs became angry and returned later in the day to shoot Sandlin.
During the hearing Friday, a judge also granted a defense request to have Combs assessed for mental competency.
