Former Binion murder defendant Tabish wins parole
LAS VEGAS — The man acquitted of killing Las Vegas casino executive Ted Binion but convicted of stealing his treasure has been granted parole.
A state prisons spokeswoman said Thursday that 44-year-old Rick Tabish could be released as early as April 2.
Parole Board records say he wants to be released to Montana.
Tabish and co-defendant Sandra Murphy were convicted in 2000 in one of Las Vegas’ most sensational trials of murdering Binion in 1998 at his Las Vegas home.
Tabish and Murphy were granted a new trial and acquitted of murder charges in 2004. But they were convicted of stealing some of the $7 million stash of silver that Binion buried in the desert.
Murphy lives in Laguna Beach, Calif.
Tabish had to serve more time because of an extortion conviction.
