Police officer dies in stampede

BHOPAL - Indian Police Service (IPS) officer H.S. Pawar, injured in a stampede at the Ganga Sagar fair in West Bengal, died Friday, officials said.

Pawar, who went to Ganga Sagar on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, was injured in the stampede that killed seven people. He was admitted to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, police spokesman Prakash Dixit told IANS.

A Madhya Pradesh cadre IPS officer of 1987 batch, Pawar was posted as Inspector General (Narcotics) in Indore.
