GHAZIABAD - A police sub-inspector was beaten up by a group of drunk men in a crime-prone area of Ghaziabad late Thursday night, police said Friday.

Sub-inspector Raghu Nath Singh, posted as in-charge of Gaushala check-post, had gone to arrest some robbers in Chandmari area, along with two constables, Vijay Nagar police station officer Sudhir Kumar said.

The three arrested two men from the area and one of the constables took them back to the police post, leaving behind Raghu Nath and the other constable.

The sub-inspector started questioning a woman tea vendor, Salochna, about other robbers and anti-social elements in the area, when some drunks surrounded the two. The constable managed to escape, leaving behind the officer.

“Raghu Nath was left alone and was roughed up by the drunk men,” Sudhir Kumar said.

Raghu Nath somehow escaped and reached the Vijay Nagar police station where he reported the incident.

A case has been registered against the tea vendor, her husband Jagannath and fifteen other unidentified people. “The woman has been arrested. We are on lookout for other people who were involved in the incident,” the station officer said.
