Okla. executes man convicted of killing 2 in Tulsa
McALESTER, Okla. — Oklahoma has executed a man convicted in the 1993 beating deaths of his ex-girlfriend’s daughter and grandchild.
Julius Ricardo Young was executed by lethal injection Thursday and pronounced dead at 6:27 p.m. at Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester.
Young was convicted of first-degree murder in the slayings of Joyland Morgan and her son, Kewan, whose bodies were found Oct. 1, 1993, at their Tulsa apartment.
Prosecutors say Young was upset Morgan’s mother ended their relationship. They say he broke into the apartment and beat the two with a baseball bat.
The 60-year-old Young maintained his innocence at an Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board hearing in December. The board denied his clemency request.
All of Young’s appeals had been exhausted.
