NEW DELHI - Being the wife of a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer is no safeguard from pick pockets. The wife of a senior police official had her credit card and Rs.5,500 picked neatly from her purse when she was out shopping with her husband at a prominent south Delhi mall, police said Tuesday.

Ajay Bhatnagar, inspector general with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), had gone with his wife, Vandana, to Select City Mall in Saket area Sunday.

“Near a shop they noticed that the zip of Vandana’s purse was open. Bhatnagar got suspicious and asked his wife to check the purse. They found the credit card along with Rs.5,500 were missing,” a police officer said.

The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.

Earlier, the identity card of a woman probationary IPS officer was stolen along with other belongings of her purse by a thief when she was visiting the same mall.
