NEW DELHI - Three men have been arrested here for kidnapping and murdering a 19-year-old son of a doctor, police said Sunday. Among the arrested is a relative of the doctor.

They kidnapped the boy because of jealously and to make quick money, police said.

Viplav Biswas and Deepak Singh, both 23, were arrested from Vasant Kunj area in south Delhi and their third accomplice Manish Verma, also 23, was arrested from Sonepat in Haryana Saturday for kidnapping and murdering Raju Roy, who lived with his parents in northwest Delhi.

Their fourth accomplice Hardeep is still at large.

“They kidnapped and killed… for easy money,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (south Delhi) H.G.S. Dhaliwal.

“Biswas is a cousin of Roy, who was very jovial and lived a good life. Biswas envied Roy and wanted to live a similar life. To fulfil his desires, Biswas hatched a conspiracy along with two criminals and one of his friends to kidnap and extract ransom from the victim’s father Shrimal, who runs a good medical practice,” the police oficer added.

According to police, Biswas called Roy Jan 4 for a party, overpowered and kidnapped him and also took his Santro car. They took him to Gannor in Sonepat, where Varma made other arrangements.

Hardeep then made a ransom call to the victim’s father demanding Rs.2 million for his son’s safe release. They also withdrew some money from Roy’s ATM card.

“The victim’s father registered a case with police Jan 5. Sensing police action, Biswas told Hardeep to eliminate the victim and get out from there. The accused first shoved Roy’s head underwater and then stabbed him to death,” Dhaliwal said.

“They put the victim’s body in the boot of his car and drove to Karnal. They left his body in the driver’s seat and abandoned the car in a desolate area,” he added.
