BHUBANESWAR - A total of seven people including three Nigerian nationals have been arrested for allegedly siphoning money from 18 ATMs in Orissa’s Balasore district, police said Friday.

According to police, the seven took out money amounting to Rs.2.47 crore from ATMs of various nationalised and private banks in the district, taking advantage of “procedural loopholes”.

“They used to misappropriate money from these ATMs with collusion of employees of a money transfer company called CMS Security Services. The money has been deposited in accounts outside the country. The crime came to light during investigation, after a top official of CMS Security filed a case,” Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar said.

Police is also seeking to freeze these accounts and are investigating whether there was any collusion of bank staff in the fraud.
