NEW DELHI - The body of a 19-year-old youth, who was missing since early this week, was found in Haryana’s Karnal city Thursday. Police said he was kidnapped and killed over some personal enmity, and dismissed a ransom call as a diversionary tactic.
Rajeev Rai was found stabbed to death in Karnal city. Son of a Ayurvedic doctor, Rai went missing along with his Santro car from Mangolpuri area of northwest Delhi Monday. He was a Class 12 student of Open School in Rohini.
The police said some passers-by spotted the body in the car, abandoned at a secluded place in Karnal. Rai’s hands and legs were tied up.
“Initial instigations suggest that Rai was killed inside the car. His body was on the front seat of the car. It also looks like he was killed Tuesday and the body is lying inside the car since then,” a police officer said.
Police believe that the youth was killed due to enmity and the call for Rs.5 million ransom was made only to divert the investigation.
“The call was made once and there was no follow-up, which makes it clear that the abductors did not want money. We strongly suspect that he was killed due to personal enmity,” the officer added.
The police said some money was withdrawn using Rai’s ATM card in Karnal.
“We are questioning the ATM guard and a computer generated sketch of the person who withdrew money is being prepared. We are also looking into the close circuit television camera footage installed at the ATM booth,” the officer added.
