NEW DELHI - Successful conviction in cases probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has gone down by two percent in 2009, the agency said Wednesday.

Only 64.74 percent people got punishment in the cases investigated by the CBI last year, as against 66.75 percent convictions in 2008, a CBI official said.

“The two percent decline was because more cases were registered last year as compared to 2008,” he explained.

The CBI registered only 999 cases last year as against 1,118 in 2008.
