NEW DELHI - A young man allegedly involved in the murder of under-19 cricketer Gagandeep Singh and over a dozen kidnappings for ransom has been arrested after a brief shootout, police said Monday.
Delhi Police’s Special Cell arrested Ajay Raj Sangwan, 23, near the Nizamuddin flyover in south Delhi Sunday. A pistol and seven cartridges were recovered from him.
Sangwan was a known criminal in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. “He was also wanted for the murder of Gagandeep Singh,” Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal said. He carried a reward of Rs.50,000 on his head.
Singh was killed when Sangwan and his associates, Ankit Chauhan, Mukrid Talian and Rahul Sangwan, opened fire at a shopkeeper in Meerut Oct 9 after a quarrel over snacks. Rahul Sangwan has already been arrested.
