NEW DELHI - Delhi Police Sunday said they busted a gang of burglars and arrested members of a gang who allegedly committed thefts at the houses of a bureaucrat, an army officer and a former judicial officer in southwest Delhi recently.
About a complaint of theft at the house of a former judicial officer in Moti Bagh area Dec 20, a senior police officer said: “When we reached the spot, we found that the house was ransacked and the thieves had gained entry from the back.”
The officer said two other burglaries were also recently committed at the houses of an army officer and a bureaucrat in nearby areas. Investigations showed that the method was the same and that all the three crimes were committed by the same group.
“A mobile phone which was stolen by the gang was put under surveillance. The thieves had made only one phone call from that mobile which actually led to their arrest,” the officer added.
He said two of the gang members — Deepak and Ravi — were arrested from Dhaula Kuan area in southwest Delhi while they were disposing of the stolen property. “On interrogation, they revealed that one Sanjay and his son Monu used to research the area and inform them about the houses,” the officer added.
“Sanjay was arrested. Shambhu, who was the receiver of the stolen property, was also arrested. Efforts are on to arrest the other accused,” he added.
Stolen goods like an LCD television, a digital camera, men’s suits, expensive watches, silver coins, jewellery, bags, mobile phones, and silver idols were recovered from them.
