Guatemala orders slain lawyer’s relatives arrested
GUATEMALA CITY — An attorney says Guatemalan authorities have ordered the arrest of two cousins of a prominent lawyer who accused President Alvaro Colom of involvement in his slaying in a video released posthumously.
Lawyer Edwin Mis says brothers Francisco and Jose Valdes Paiz are being sought for allegedly ordering the May 10 killing of Rodrigo Rosenberg. Eleven people have already been arrested.
Mis said Wednesday that the arrest warrants were issued Dec. 9 and police raided his clients’ homes and offices the following day. Mis didn’t say where his clients are or whether they would turn themselves in.
Rosenberg made a video before he was slain charging that Colom would be involved if the lawyer was killed. Colom has denied any connection.
