NEW DELHI - A man has been arrested for manufacturing and selling spurious drugs in the national capital under the names of branded companies, police said Wednesday.

Vikas Sharma was arrested Tuesday when he was to deliver a consignment of spurious drugs near Fauji Dhaba on G.T. Road in Sonepat, Haryana.

Later, sleuths of Delhi Police’s Special Cell busted a manufacturing unit run by him in East Gokul Puri area of northeast Delhi and seized a large quantity of spurious drugs, packaging material and packing machine.

“Sharma had been evading arrest for over one year. He said he used to procure ayurvedic tablets from a factory in Sonepat. He then packed them in strips in his East Gokul Puri factory falsely using names of branded drug companies. He would then sell the spurious drugs in the market,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Alok Kumar.
