NEW DELHI - A 39-year-old jeweller from Delhi’s suburban city Gurgaon was arrested here for allegedly creating a hijack and bomb scare on a Mumbai bound Jet Airways Mumbai flight while he was under the influence of alcohol, police said Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 10.30 p.m. Tuesday at the Palam airport.
We have arrested Naveen Kumar on the complaint of the Jet Airways staff. They said that Kumar after boarding the Delhi-Mumbai flight at the Palam airport told one of the crew members that he was carrying a bomb in his bag and would hijack the plane, a senior police officer told IANS.
The complainant said Kumar was in a group of six people and they were all under the influence of alcohol, the officer said.
According to police, the crew informed the pilot of the flight who in turn alerted security staff of Jet Airways as well as the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The security personnel removed Kumar from the plane.
As Kumar was offloaded from the flight, his five friends also choose to disembark from the flight. They were taken into custody and interrogated. Kumar was then arrested under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). And since there was no role of the other people, they were let off, the officer said.
