NJ shelter worker charged with killing 2 cats
EATONTOWN, N.J. — An attendant at a central New Jersey animal shelter has been accused of killing two cats by strangling one and throwing the other to the ground head first.
Eatontown police say they arrested the 31-year-old man Monday after other workers reported seeing him slay the cats in the shelter’s surgical recovery room.
The Belmar resident is charged with animal cruelty. He’s been jailed in lieu of $30,000 bail. Authorities say they don’t know if he’s retained an attorney.
Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Chief Victor “Buddy” Amato says the man had worked at the shelter for about 18 months.
An animal cruelty charge carries a maximum prison term of three to five years.
