JIND - In yet another case of honour killing, a young couple was allegedly killed by the girl’s family members in this Haryana town Monday as they objected to the relationship, police said.

The deceased were identified as Vikas Kumar and Ritu. Though their exact age was not yet known, they were in their early twenties, police said.

“Vikas and Ritu were attending coaching classes for an entrance exam of a New Delhi-based institute and they were going around for the last few months. Ritu had come to her home here to meet her parents a few days back,” inspector Dalip Kumar, who is investigating the case, told IANS.

“This morning, Vikas also came to their house. Ritu’s parents were very upset over this. Therefore, in connivance with some relatives, they strangulated Vikas and threw his body in the open fields. Then they returned home, murdered Ritu, and immediately cremated her to remove all the evidence,” he added.

Police have recovered Vikas’ body and sent it for autopsy.

“Our investigation is on and we are taking the help of sniffer dogs and forensic experts to gather vital clues related to this case. We have also rounded up some relatives of the girl’s family in connection with this dual murder,” stated Kumar.

Haryana is notorious for honour killings with many young boys and girls have been killed in the past.

In one recent case, a teenaged schoolgirl who was in a relationship with a boy, was strangled to death by her brother in a village in Rohtak district Sep 1.
