4 inmates in Mexican prison die, throats slashed
CULIACAN, Sinaloa — Four inmates have been found dead with their throats slashed at a prison in the Pacific coast state of Sinaloa.
A spokesman for the Sinaloa state prosecutors’ office says the inmates’ bodies were found in a trash container at the prison in Culiacan, the state capital.
Spokesman Martin Gastelum said Tuesday the prisoners apparently bled to death.
The bodies were found Monday. Three of the four had been arrested earlier this month following a gun battle with police, while another was on trial for rape. Another inmate also died Monday of a drug overdose.
Three other inmates have been killed in the last month at the facility, which is located in a state where some of Mexico’s most powerful drug lords were born.
