Adibasi Girl MMS Helps Serve Justice

BIRBHUM, WEST BENGAL (GaeaTimes.com)- Police officers from the Birbhum district in West Bengal sprung to action after an MMS clip of a tribal girl being paraded naked through the streets was released. In what can only be described as gruesome and horrific, the video clip showed the girl being groped by hundreds of men on the street while she walked over a stretch of 8km. The MMS clip called ‘Adibasi Girl’ helped the girl get justice 4 months after the ordeal.

The entire video clip revealed the naked parading of the tribal girl was accompanied by the beating of drums and the cheering and jeering of the men. The police came across the video that was recorded in April but not exposed earlier. They have presently arrested 5 men for the crime. The reports suggest that the girl was forced into the ordeal after it was found that she was having an affair with a boy from another community. The incident is a strong reminder of the Guwahati incident in 2007 when a woman was forced to walk in the nude on the streets and was molested by a mob during an ethnic clash. The Adibasi girl in the latest incident was reportedly too traumatized to complain to the police after the incident. The police were also shocked that the Panchayat and local bodies were aware of the incident.

The MMS of the Adibasi girl also sparked off a strong reaction from the Indian media. One of the newspapers described the incident as horrific and said that the girl had a dazed and dead look on her face while she staggered along the dusty tracks trying to protect her modesty.
