Police detain 4 in Grenoble following urban unrest

PARIS — A police official says four men, including two minors, have been detained in a morning raid in the southeastern French city of Grenoble, the site of recent clashes between police and local youth.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity in accordance with police policy, said Wednesday that officers were trying to identify the accomplice of Karim Boudouda, a Grenoble resident who was shot dead by police following an armed robbery at a nearby casino.

Boudouda’s death touched off several nights of unrest last month, with dozens of cars torched. Police said they were shot at, though no one was injured in the rioting.

Wednesday’s police raid comes a day ahead of a visit to Grenoble by Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux.
