Suspected Pink Panthers thief nabbed in Rome

ROME — Italian police have arrested a suspected member of a gang of jewel thieves known as the Pink Panthers, who are believed to have carried out daring robberies across the world.

The Interpol and Rome police said Friday that Radovan Jelusic, a Montenegrin national, was arrested in the Italian capital on an international arrest warrant.

The 39-year-old is suspected of involvement in robberies in countries including Cyprus and Japan.

Andrea Di Giannantonio of the Rome police said Jelusic was picked up Tuesday at a coffee bar in the hip Trastevere neighborhood.

The Pink Panthers are believed to be mainly from the Balkans. Interpol said the group is believed to have carried out jewel robberies worth more than euro250 million ($310 million) in the last decade.
