4 convicted in Greece for hotel monoxide deaths
ATHENS, Greece — Greek court officials say four people have been convicted in the fatal carbon monoxide poisoning of two British children at a luxury hotel on Corfu in 2006.
A Corfu misdemeanor court late Tuesday sentenced the hotel manager, a senior maintenance official and the hotel electrician to seven years in prison for negligent manslaughter and causing injury by negligence.
All were freed pending appeal.
Seven-year-old Christianne Shepherd and her 6-year-old brother Robert were found dead in October 2006 in their bungalow at the Corcyra Beach Hotel. Their father and his partner were found unconscious but recovered.
A fourth defendant received a two-year suspended sentence for building violations. Another seven defendants were cleared.
