LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- The fake USC bomb threat that shut down the campus for about an hour was made by a man in the psychiatric ward of the USC University Hospital, as reported by the officials of the Los Angeles Police Department. Initially, the police had reported that the call had been made from the USC-County Medical Center. Apparently, the man had made various other called to many other places, but the University was the only one that paid heed to the threat. The police reported that the man had called the university, claiming that he had placed a ‘nuclear weapon’ in the campus.
However, the police did not find any suspicious package or anything resembling a bomb in the campus, and they stated that the USC bomb threat is most certainly a hoax. They have taken the man into custody, and have reported that he was possibly intoxicated when the call was placed. The call came to the University sometime around 12:30 in the afternoon, and the police department was immediately notified. The bomb squad shut down part of the campus, including the Leavey Library, and asked the staff and students to stay away from the region.
Some of the nearby roads, like the Jefferson Boulevard and Figueroa Street were also closed off. The students were ordered to stay in their classroom, and they kept in touch with the situation via Twitter and their cell phones. The students later reported that they were quite scared of the whole situation as they could not ascertain for sure whether the USC bomb threat was for real or not.
