AHMEDABAD, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The arrest of Ketan Desai, the president of Medical Council of India is unveiling some hitherto unknown secrets about medical malpractices in the country. He was taken into custody on Friday by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a corruption case. It has been found out that he was subjected to income tax raids earlier too. He was earlier questioned for allegations of illegal income and corruption, as the CBI has said. It is a matter of concern that Dr. Ketan Desai with his corrupt associates are being probed by the law and the medical fraternity of Ahmedabad has chosen to remain mum on the topic.
A number of doctors are of the opinion that his arrest is justified but none of them are willing to come to the forefront to reveal his activities. However, a section of doctors, on the condition of anonymity, have unraveled tales of Ketan Desai’s reign of terror. The MCI president allegedly manipulated the medical fraternity of Ahmedabad and he took lots of bribes. He was quite influential in his circle and those who dared to confront him faced dire consequences.
Ketan Desai was removed from the MCI in 2002 when unexplained receipts of huge amount of monetary transactions were found in the names of his family members. Later he managed to get re-elected in the council. The arrested president of MCI is not willing to co-operate with the investigators as it has been reported. CBI has started investigating the case against him in detail. They are receiving emails from people who were cheated by Ketan Desai.
