Bihar official sentenced to seven years in prison for murder

A local court in Bihar today sentenced a senior state government official to seven years in prison for murdering a villager 25 years ago.
The official Chandrabhushan Rai found guilty by the court for murdering a villager in a case of land dispute was posted as the Block Development Official at Jhanjharpur block in north Bihar’s Darbhanga district.
The judgment was pronounced by additional district and session judge Murlidhar in a packed court room.
Soon after the judgment, the BDO was sent to jail in tight police custody.
“I have full faith in the God and will move the upper court for appeal”, the BDO told reporters in the court premises.
Police records said the official had killed a villager Ramratan Rai with a hard object over a issue of land dispute on June 24, 1985. The villager died on the spot but the case lingered on for over 25 years.
