Judge denies bail for Jamaica rapper Bounty Killer
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaican dancehall star Bounty Killer has been denied bail while he awaits trial on charges of assaulting his girlfriend.
The rapper allegedly struck the woman because she wanted to break up with him.
Police said Wednesday in a statement that he later threatened her in a phone call placed while in custody.
His attorney, Linda Wright, said he would fight the charges. A trial is scheduled for April 14.
Bounty Killer is best known for the album “My Xperience” and for his collaboration on the song “Hey Baby” with U.S. pop band No Doubt.
Known offstage as Rodney Price, he has had frequent run-ins with the law. His most recent arrest came Monday.
