LONDON - Two Indian-origin brothers who fell through ice into a frozen lake in southeast England last week were Tuesday identified as Dinesh and Kishor Dattani.

Police denied they died trying to scatter ashes in the frozen Watermead Country Park lake in Leicestershire Friday.

A third brother, who also fell into the lake, was treated for hypothermia and survived.

The two brothers died in hospital after being found unconscious in freezing water by passersby alerted by cries for help from a fourth companion.

All four men are in their 40s and 50s, police said, adding: Media reports are suggesting that the men may have been scattering ashes at the time of the incident. It is our understanding that this is not the case.

The men are from the Belgrave area of Leicester, a city with one of the largest communities of Indian-origin people in Britain.
