RAIPUR - As many as 96 workers from Chhattisgarh are being held “hostages” in several states of the country where they went to work as labourers at brick kilns, the state assembly was told Tuesday.

In a written reply to Congress member Shakrajeet Nayak, Agriculture and Labour Minister Chandrasekhar Sahu said the total was based on complaints received from the workers’ families.

Sahu told the house that the government was doing its best to bring the workers back home to the state.
