BHOPAL - Normalcy appeared to be fast returning to Maksi town in Shajapur district of Madhya Pradesh after an indefinite curfew was imposed following a clash between two groups over a cricket match last week, police said Tuesday.
“Curfew has been relaxed since 9.00 a.m. Tuesday and the relaxation will continue up to 7 p.m. if no untoward incident occurs,” Shajapur District Collector R.K. Sharma told IANS.
“No untoward incident was reported from anywhere so far. People are purchasing essential items while the administration is monitoring sensitive areas where armed police personnel are stationed. Curfew will be again in force from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. though we may consider further relaxation tomorrow (Wednesday), depending on the situation,” he said.
A 22-year-old man was killed in firing and six others were injured when a dispute over a cricket match turned violent last Friday. The administration first imposed prohibitory orders banning assembly of five or more people at a public place and later clamped curfew in the town.
“A compensation of Rs.1 lakh has been sanctioned for the family of the deceased youth while cases have been registered against warring parties on the basis of complaints filed by them,” Sharma said.
Around 25 people have been taken into custody, police said.
