Student shoots girl, kills himself in Bhopal

BHOPAL - An engineering student fired shots and seriously injured a girl before shooting himself dead, police said Monday.

The shooting occurred at Khajuri Sadak area of the city when the girl, Chhaya, an engineering student too, was returning home from her college after an examination. A youth — an enginering student identified as Vinay Pachori — stopped her and talked to her for some time, police said, citing eyewitnesses.

Suddenly Pachori whipped out a pistol and fired at least three shots at Chhaya from point blank range and then turned the gun on himself, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Santosh Singh Gour told IANS.

“While the boy died on the spot, the girl, who had received serious injuries, has been admitted to a hospital and her condition is reported to be critical,” Gour said.

Police have registered a case and are investigating.
