KOLKATA - One of the three undertrials who fled Tuesday from a prison van when it was hit by a truck was nabbed Wednesday, police said.

Monirul was caught from Amdanga in Madhavpur in North 24 Parganas and police are trying to arrest other two undertrials.

The three undertrials, Ganapati Singh, Balbir Ram and Monirul, along with six others were being taken to a Barasat court in North 24 Parganas adjoining the metropolis when the accident gave them an opportunity to flee, police said.

The trio which fled has charges of dacoity and murder against them.

The police said it is probing whether the escape was pre-planned.

Earlier Wednesday, the driver of the prison van was suspended.
