HILLSBORO (GaeaTimes.com)- The case of Debra Janelle Jeter finally reached to a conclusion on Thursday, with the judge pronouncing her guilty on the charges of capital murder and attempted capital murder. The 33 year old woman from Texas had attacked her daughters, killing one of them and severely injuring the other. After that, she herself had informed the police and had handed herself over to the legal custody. She had pleaded guilty to the charges slapped on her on Tuesday, and the verdict was pronounced on Thursday, under a plea agreement. According to reports, the plea agreement not only lessened the severity of the sentence, but it also ensured that her surviving daughter, now 14 years of age, did not have to testify in court against her mother.
The horrific incident had taken place in June last year. Debra Janelle Jeter had been fighting for the custody of her daughters against her husband, from whom she had recently obtained a divorce. The police department had received a chilling call one night in June, with Debra Janelle Jeter asking for immediate help, confessing that she had killed her daughters. She informed them that one of her daughters was already dead, and asked the police to come over and save the still surviving one.
Debra Janelle Jeter had also informed the police that she had a weapon with her, a knife. When the police arrived in the mentioned location they found her with her daughters, holding her hands above her head. She has been awarded life imprisonment, and would have been given the death sentence had she refused to agree to the terms of the plea agreement.
